About Us
After hearing on the news the first week-end in May that gas prices are again at an all-time high and having someone pass along to me that they are going to try Gas Out Day, the 15th of May, I thought this is a good idea, but it can be better. So with some thought I came up with the idea why not have Gas Out one day a month, it is a grassroots movement that everyone can be involved in and easily too.
People need to realize, they aren’t helpless or have no choice. You can look through this site and find ways to save on fuel, suggestions galore, and learn that you can in fact make a difference. Remember all changes through-out the history of mankind has always been started a small group of people that dare to think outside the box, people that dared to dream, hope and wish. We can make a change, you could offer to take your neighbor to the store when you have to go, you can share your thoughts for a better future for generations to come, by stopping our forced ideal of the need of fossil fuel. Take a few minutes, enjoy this video, let it fill your heart with hope, then please continue reading
)
What Gas Out is is one day a month you do NOT buy gas, that is all. One little old day a month people can send a message to the big oil corporations, letting them know that we the consumers are not happy with the outrageous prices we are paying while they; the oil corporations, are making record profits quarter after quarter. (I told you it was easy)
This site is designed to keep you informed of how this grassroots movement; Gas Out, is growing. There are banner buttons & flyers (just to the right of you), flyers that you are able to print right from this site for yourself, family or neighbors. For the real adventurous ones to pass & post in your local neighborhoods.
BTW the U.S. consumes about 20 million barrels of oil each day, you find that a barrel of oil (which contains 42 gallons or 159 liters) will yield something like 19 or 20 gallons (75 liters) of gasoline, depending on the refinery. Therefore, in the United States, something like 400 million gallons (1.51 billion liters) of gasoline gets consumed every day.
Surprising isn’t it? So now can see how one day a month can in fact make a difference? Also Gas Out: A Grassroots Movement is just that a grassroots movement, people that are at least trying to make a difference. Did you know about 50% Americans that work 5 days a week, work 10 hrs in any given week just for fuel cost for transportation to and from work? This means even people that work 5 days a week for 4 hrs a day, so basically half of their paycheck is going to fuel cost and this is not even including the running to go grocery shopping, drs, etc…
Also Gas Out: A Grassroots movement is already difference by how they call for gas Out Day, once a mth instead of once a year and they have plans to expand that to two days a mth. Although I know many will say how will one day a month help, now that you know how much the people in the U.S. consumes gas on any given day, don’t you think oil companies just might feel that a wee bit in their over-inflated wallets?
But I will say I’m a bit confused why some (you should see the emails I’ve gotten lol) would seem so upset about Gas Out, I mean change always starts with one person that believes we all deserve something better, remember the civil rights movement? It was started by one person, a person I’m sure was told she couldn’t make a difference why bother. Just think what the US would be like now if civil rights never came to be.
One thing I know for sure, we’ve got to try, just sitting and complaining is NOT going to lower the cost of gas. We know that oil corporations are making record profits while a large percentage of Americans are having to cut back on the bare necessities of life due to the high and ever rising gas cost.
So why some are laughing, not caring, ridiculing and not having the belief they can make a change within, I will be believing and doing all I can to help make it where no one has to choose between gas or food.
Please pass this site along, let a friend or two know and let’s show that Americans still have a voice that is clear and strong.
DON’T FORGET TO NOT BUY GAS TUESDAY, JUNE, 19th 2007.

i don’t think that will work, one day out of a month, not good enough, i’ll send you something i’ve put together, i know it will work, but to get the word out is the big problem i have
WHEN THE REFINERIES HAVE TO CLOSE DOWN, IT TAKES THEM A WEEK TO SHUT THEM DOWN, AND A WEEK TO START THEM UP AGAIN, YES, THIS WILL HURT THEM VERY MUCH, AND ALSO WAKE THE GOVERNMENTS UP TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE NOT SHEEP LIKE THEY BELIEVE US TO BE, PEOPLE OF THE NATION,
UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.
IT’S THE TAX OFF THE HIGH PRICED FUEL, THAT IS PAYING FOR OUR BOYS TO BE SENT OVER SEAS TO GET SLAUGHTERED, THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN, BUT ON THE COMMAND OF A FEW MEGLOMANIACS.
SHELL, 1ST. OCTOBER,………….3 MONTHS…………………………………………….1ST. JAN.
CALTEX, 1ST. JAN…………………..3 MONTHS…………………………………………..1ST. APRIL
B.P. 1ST. APRIL…………………….3 MONTHS…………………………………………..1ST. JULY
MOBIL 1ST. JULY…………………..3 MONTHS…………………………………………..1ST OCT.
IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR THREE MONTHS AND ALL AT THE SAME
TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET
LOSS OF BILLIONS DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES
OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
THEREFORE THE FIRST DAY OF OCTOBER HAS BEEN FORMALLY
DECLARED “STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND” DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF
THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL FOR THREE MONTHS.,.
FROM THE COMPANYS NAMED IN THE RESPECTIVE MONTHS.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU F0RWARD THIS
TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO
GET THE W0RD OUT.
WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES
IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND
CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED 2 WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF PETROL GOING UP
BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES,
TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS
PRICES OF EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING,
BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END?
WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON’T GET THE MESSAGE,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE W0RD TO
EVERY0NE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE THE FIRST DAY OF OCTOBER A DAY
THAT THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”

With all due respect, (and without trying to tun this into a debate) I don’t think that I, or anyone I know, could go 3 months without fuel. People have to go to work take children to school, etc. Nice thought, but unrealistic. I will be glad to do this one specifed day a month.

PS. My husband and father are two of the soldiers you were speaking of. They are not victims, they are proud to serve.

Chrisse, I feel as though I must say this first as you do I also think that our men and women in arms are proud to serve. Now with that said, let me continue I also don’t see how anyone can go the 3 mths without gas, but if someone can kudos to them.
I want to thank you for your willingness to join in Gas Out, the day after a gas out day, you will be able to see when the next Gas Out Day will be here at site.
I will personally make sure there are new flyers up by the 30th of every mth (28th with Feb.) Please feel free to print them out, pass them around etc.. Also you will find banner buttons that can be added to personal websites, blogs, etc.. I hope that you can get some use out of them.
Gas Out: A Grassroots Movement is always looking for people that want to become more active, such as author on this blog, logo designs, flyers etc..
I cannot thank you enough for joining in with Gas Out: A Grassroots Movement monthly gas out day.

Thank you esoterica. I don’t have much for a website, but would be glad to put a banner on my myspace page and can pass them on to my friends for their websites and blogs. I do believe that something needs to be done about our gas prices. I remember the gas out working years ago and I think it would make a difference again. Thank you for your efforts. I, and many of my friends, will join you on the 15th and each month after.

This is a great idea, and everyone should participate in it. We need to preserve our oil and take a stand. I admire you folks for doing this. I gas-out every day-I walk, LOL I don’t even own a vehicle, so it is easy for me to gas out.

I think you are all missing the point of the 3-month no gas plan. The creator isn’t suggesting you not purchase ANY gas, just avoid the specific gas companies for that period. Let’s say you purchase Shell fuel. From October to January you DON’T purchase your fuel from Shell, but from Mobil or BP.
This idea of a 3-month no-gas is incredibly interesting. It has a high probability of success… the author just needs to channel of bit of that anger into persuasiveness and better communication.
Good luck, all!

Well ,I couldn’t agree more. We all can find ways to conserve gas and send a firm message to big oil that we are mad as hell and not going to pay these prices any longer. After all , we are the consumer. They need us more then we need them.
I feel that 3 months is too much to ask anyone. People with children and jobs that require travel would have a difficult time with this. It would be beneficial for people to use public transit or carpooling to conserve fuel to achieve the goal.

i’m sorry if you missread what i meant, but it wasn’t going without gas for three monthe, it was boycotting ONE oil company for three months, certainly buy your petrol from somewhere else, but not off one company for three months, then another company for three months, that would cripple them, and make them sit up and change their ways, and, GeoJane, i’m not angry, just very passionate in what i believe, i do apologise if i can’t comunicate too well, but lack of education, and straightfowardness might be the cause

Barry, and I know that all changes have always started with a small group of people daring to believe they can make a difference. Thank you so much Barry for being one that dares to believe. I know we can make a change.

GeoJane, thank you so much for helping to clear that up.
I also think that is an interesting thought. I believe if we pull together we can all make a difference. So all thoughts, suggestions, ideals, brain storming is more than welcome. Let’s show we the people can still make a difference.

Brad Taylor, It will only work if we unite to do it. It may not drop gas prices overnight, but demonstration of unity is a powerful message. There is no need to commit a public lynching of any gasoline company or the government, at least not until after they have been adequately warned that the consequence is possible.
i say a one month toal gas and food boycott if a lot of people slowly got enough food and gas to last one month and only went to work and did not buy and thing from the store and planted a garden the ecomoney would go to hell and the gas companies ceo's said,
